CHRISTMAS IN CAIRNS: THINGS TO DO

It’s the most wonderful time of the year again—Christmas time! If you want a getaway this holiday season, why not enjoy everything on offer in Cairns? Here’s what’s waiting for you in Cairns this Christmas season:

Seafood

Being in a coastal region means fresh seafood. There are lots of hotel and restaurants that offer Christmas dinners with a seafood buffet—take a break from the stuffy turkey and indulge in what marine life has in store.

Adventure

The fact that this city is the gateway to nature’s most beautiful gifts is given, but if you want to do adrenaline-inducing activities, you can have those, too. Doing those with beautiful nature around you is one of the perks. Here are some of the things you can do:

  • Great Barrier Reef. You can choose from these activities: snorkelling, glass-bottom boat cruise, helicopter rides and scuba-diving.

  • Tully River. Challenge yourself with white water rafting!

  • Rainforest Skyrail. See the majestic beauty of Queensland’s old rainforest from the top!

  • Daintree Forest. You can go through a river cruise—look for crocs! You can also do Jungle Surf Zipline, a zipline activity for all ages to enjoy!

  • AJ Hackett. This one’s for the daredevils—go bungy-jumping, ride a giant swing, or the ultimate combo: ride a BMX while bungy-jumping.

A different kind of White Christmas

While you can't experience the cold White Christmas here in Cairns, you can experience a tropical White Christmas. No need for heavy coats, just bring some sunscreen and bathers! This place has some of the best beaches in the world such as Palm Cove and Mission Beach, where you can enjoy the sun and the surf.

Special Christmas Events

People in Cairns love Christmas, hence the various fun events one can experience the whole season. Here is a calendar of some events you shouldn’t miss:
